Fifty Years of the Remington Model Craig Boddington – December 21, In both the 19th and 20th centuries, American gunmakers probably designed and produced more great firearms than any country on Earth. Some have had lasting impact and passed the century mark — Colt’s Single Action Army , the Winchester Model 94 and the Browning-designed Colt come immediately to mind. Many more have passed the half-century mark and beyond. In two extremely important American bolt-actions celebrate important birthdays. The timeless Winchester Model 70 , introduced in , is now 75 years young. Remington’s Model , introduced in , celebrates its 50th. Last month I wrote about the Model 70; this month it’s the Model ‘s turn. I will avoid direct comparisons as well as I can, except as absolutely essential. For instance, for most of its life the M70 has featured controlled-round feed, while the M has always been a push-feed design. I will not attempt to tell you which one is best, or even which I personally like best.

Lesley Stahl is the correspondent. Alexandra Poolos, associate producer. A federal judge in Missouri heard arguments this past week in a case involving one of the most popular bolt-action rifles in American history: The company has downplayed the danger for decades and the complaints represent only a fraction of the rifles out there. And he has good reason.
Built on the proven Remington® Model ®, the BDL™ Bolt-Action Rifle has all the quality features needed for serious hunting or informal target shooting. The BDL comes with high-gloss American walnut stock, enhanced by a Monte Carlo raised cheekpiece, a distinctive black fore-end cap, and generous skipline cut checkering/5(14).
Remington s are the US military’s choice of sniper rifle. Since , Remington has produced the series. More recently, the rifle has been adopted by the U. Military as a sniper weapon. Remington produced the classic Model rifle in many varieties: You may be wondering what you receive for paying two hundred dollars more for the BDL.
BDLs are in current production. ADLs have now been discontinued. This means that the BDL has a “hinged magazine floorplate,” enabling the user to unload the firearm without cycling the bolt. This can be useful on those cold hunts when extremities are prone to numbness. The fore-end cap will be black and can be found on the tip of the back end of the stock.
ADLs are without this device.

CNBC aired this expose-type documentary yesterday about a number of lawsuits involving Remington Arms and the mod. The show didn’t strike me as your typical antigun, media hit-piece. It seems like there may be a problem. There are company memos going all the way back to the development stage that mention a “theoretical” unsafe condition. The original designer actually proposed a solution but it wasn’t implemented for decades.
Police and military snipers have complained of problems. And most of all, it may have contributed to two dozen civilian deaths along with lack of muzzle discipline and failure to adhere to the rules of safe gun handling. At the heart of the decades-long controversy over the Remington series is a piece of metal that is roughly the length of a paper clip.
The connector is mounted on a spring inside the firing mechanism, sitting between the trigger and the sear—the metal bar that holds back the firing pin. They claim small amounts of rust, debris, or even a small jolt can push the connector out of alignment, separating the trigger itself from the rest of the firing mechanism. Then, the complaints allege, the gun can go off when other parts are operated, such as the safety or the bolt.

Apr 10, · Re: BDL Date of Manufacture Post by 54bullseye» Sun Apr 10, pm There is a list of random serial numbers in the back of John Lacys book on the Remington
Also some letters were left out if there was a chance of misidentifying a date. Also they jockeyed year letters to a new starting point in If you find marks on the underside of the barrel, they will more than likely be fitters or assembly marks, which mean nothing as to dating the firearm. To find general manufacturing dates it may be best to go to the Blue Book of Gun Values, which does give manufacturing dates of most models. An issue that people need to be aware of, is that many Remington firearms such as the series of shotguns can have their barrels easily changed or replaced.
So, if the barrel is not original to the specific firearm in question the date code may be meaningless. Also if there is a custom or aftermarket barrel installed it will not have these factory codes. Confounding the issue a bit may be the fact that Remington Arms stamps their final inspector stamps and assembly product codes in the immediate area of the date codes.
So it may be difficult at times to determine exactly what is what. With that in mind, and considering a lot of variables. If a specific Remington firearm has a serial number, Remington Customer Service is always the first source which should be checked for date of manufacture as they would be the definitive source.
There are no publically accessible databases for Remington serial numbers. With the hundreds of different Remington models produced over the past years, it can sometimes be difficult to determine the age of your firearm.

Nov 17, · For an example, I have a Model BDL in 7mm Exp. Rem. (their idiotic attempt to reintroduce the Remington with a different designation) with a barrel date code of January of (consistent with the sales date range of that caliber), but the serial number (AXXX) is lower than a Model with a barrel date code of March and serial number of AXXX that I have.
Remington sells so many different models, you are certain to find one you like for your price range. All are accurate enough for. The more you pay for a Rem , the more accurate it is likely to be. The Tikka T3 can be expected to be about as accurate as any over the counter rifle you could buy not custom. The T3 will be lighter than most Rem models. If you are humping the rifle over the mountains a lot, you might appreciate the lighter weight. Many folks prefer the box magazine on the Tikka.
It makes loading and unloading easy. The polymer magazines look cheap but are actually considered to be more functional than the metal magazines. The fit well, are lighter and are quieter than metal.
